Dracula: Season 1 (2019 - 2020)

Season 1
Dracula

Critics Consensus

A delicious blend of horror and humor that more-or-less balances modern sensibilities and the character's beloved legacy, Dracula is a frighteningly fun -- if not always faithful -- time.

Bang deftly sells this intelligent take on the legend.

This three-part adaptation of Bram Stoker's classic is a bloody masterpiece from beginning to end.

Jan 3, 2020 | Full Review…

It's a bloodstained love letter to a classic, beautifully and delicately scented with just the faintest hint of ham gothic yarns need; a homage to all the great Counts who have gone before, but still entirely its own thing.

The overwhelming sense was that everyone involved - with the exception of poor old Heffernan - was having enormous fun. It might not have been faithful to the original, but it was a scream.

The culprit, though, is not the bite of a vampire, but rather showrunners Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss biting off more than they were willing to chew in the first three episodes.

Jan 17, 2020 | Full Review…

Dracula is a four and a half-hour long bait and switch, in which we were promised a devilishly seductive unholy creature ... and ended up with a dull, disappointing slog.

Jan 16, 2020 | Full Review…

This was a Dracula to delight horror movie fans of all stripes. From the bone-chilling menace of Max Schreck in the silent classic Nosferatu almost 100 years ago, to the sheer camp silliness of Hammer horror's bosomy virgins, it paid homage to them all.

Every other actor in Dracula is performing for a different show entirely, but instead of being amusing, it's exhausting.

Jan 14, 2020 | Full Review…

This BBC One and Netflix series drips with pure atmosphere. Its look and tone are so rich that the more absurd aspects don't matter much. They actually become absorbed into the experience. Gore and class dance together in a macabre buffet.

Jan 14, 2020 | Full Review…

Despite some gorgeous gore for its gothic and modern horror settings, there's little to sustain anyone who dares dig their teeth into this limp and pale take on the character.

Jan 25, 2020 | Full Review…

It's a romp worthy of its true roots - not the florid, Victorian Gothic romance published by Bram Stoker in 1897, but those same, campy Sunday Night Horrors I grew up loving.

A new and fresh perspective of the Dracula's mythology. A necessary point of view of it. A must. [Full review in Spanish]

Totally fun! Love the Van Helsing and Dracula dynamics. Just relax and watch the show.

Many scenes are a littlebit easy but the whole picture of the film is very very fun and respect to the old theme and the novel.

He perdido mi tiempo, menuda mierda.

As an avid Dracula fan, the series absolutely delivers. While it's far from a faithful adaptation of the book, it doesn't try to be. It lets itself have fun, and tells a great compelling story in the process. It has some gory imagery, mixed with the delightful humor of Moffat and Gatiss. And the series has some absolutely brilliant references to other Dracula iterations, from the original book, to Christopher Lee, and Bela Lugosi. It's an all-round brilliant series, a great story, and it's one of my favorite versions of Dracula.

The show is thrilling. The acting is brilliant. I really enjoyed all 3 episodes. Would really love to see more.

An Excellent version of DRACULA ! Claes Bang is one of the greatest Draculas ever !! He resembles Christopher Lee, Lon Chaney Jr., Bela Lugosi & Marlon Brando. and has reinvigorated Dracula for the 21st Century

It's a 5 star for me! It defeats the purpose just jumping straight into the plot! It builds and it's worth it! That final episode left me feeling like what! Why stop at 3 why couldn't there be more? Lol

This reiteration of the tale of Dracula is the best I have seen to date. Intoxicating and horrible at the same time- Claes Bang's performance brings justice to the role of the fictional warlord of Wallachia.

First episode was amazing. A wonderful mix of campy humour, horror gore and British wit. Like Sherlock meets Buffy. Second episode was almost as good but lost the sparkle of the first episode. The third episode was tough to get through. There were so many good elements but brining Drac to modern day was a mistake and the show suffered for it. 9/10, 7.5/10, 5/10.

First episode great, second one mediocre, last one a turd.
